What is HAWAI?

HAWAI stands for HAW Laboratory for Application Integration. It is a project of the faculty “Engineering and Computer Science” of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW). The project has been set up to improve education and research in the areas of software architecture, application integration and enterprise architecture management.

Goals of HAWAI?

The main project goals of HAWAI are

  • construction of several application landscapes which comprise a number of enterprise software applications as well as their interfaces
  • simulation of business operation within these landscapes
  • granting access to these landscapes to our students and research partners as sandbox for their practical experiments

The initial application landscape is dedicated to HAWAICycle, a virtual bicycle production company. It comprises round about ten applications. They are either typical business applications, such as CRM or ERP systems, or applications, which have been developed by HAW students in various courses and then have been integrated into the HAWAICycle-landscape. Hence, HAWAICycle is more or less the result of uncontrolled evolution as you might know it from typical application landscapes in real enterprises.
